Marc Murphy | 2021 Season Review

SEASON SYNOPSIS

Many didn’t know about Murphy and what he would bring to the side at the end of 2020. He played the majority of the season last year and was a lock-in most people best 22 for this as well. Despite a good start to the year, the game seemed to have caught up to him as bad form and injuries had him in and out of the side. Until the round 15 match against the Crows where he got injured and doubts about his future were pondered.

The Blues - too many fans condemnation - got him to 300 games and despite not getting the send-off he deserved, to see the end of the career of a Carlton legend was heartbreaking. He was still very serviceable in the games he did play for us and despite physically not quite being up to scratch. His cleanliness and prolific ball use were on full display every time he got the ball. Very rarely making a poor decision with ball in hand and, at the ripe old age of 34, was still one of the club’s best ball users. BEST PERFORMANCE

Only in the Murph way, his best performance was his farewell game in round 22 against the Power. While the team performance was abysmal, Murph was the diamond in the rough as he taught our younger players a lesson or two about rising to the occasion and having the sense of the moment, they are in.

He had 24 disposals, 5 tackles, 4 inside 50’s and 323 metres gained. This was vintage Murph - although on a smaller scale - as he showed to all the Carlton faithful that despite not having alot of petrol tickets left in the tank, he still rose to the occasion and busted out one more memorable Murph performance for us all to savour.
