SEASON SYNOPSIS
The Carlton faithful have been divided about Levi Casboult throughout his career. His ability to crash a pack and take a big contested mark have always bee strong traits in his game. However, his ability to convert them into goals has left many fans extremely frustrated throughout his time as a Blue.
It was a tale of two halves for the towering big man in 2020. In the first half of the season, Levi showed much improvement and played consistently good football, as Carlton played their best football of the season. However, as Carlton’s form declined, so did Levi’s, with the second half of the season leaving much to be desired. This contrasting in performances left many fans disappointed.
He ended the season averaging 4.7 marks, 1.8 contested marks and 1.5 marks inside 50, all which rank elite and above-average among his fellow forwards. More disappointingly, however, he was only able to manage 0.9 goals per game at just 45% goal accuracy.
BEST PERFORMANCE
Levi started like a house on fire in 2020, with the Round 4 match against Essendon his best for the season. He proved crucial in the absence of Harry Mckay, as he was the only true key forward for the Blues on the night.
He took 9 marks, with 5 of them being inside 50, and gathered 14 disposals on his way to kicking 3 goals. In a low scoring affair, kicking just under half of the Blues goals in that game proved just how crucial he was.
He proved clutch in pivotal moments, with a late goal levelling the scores before the Blues ran out as eventual one-point winners in a thriller.
OFF-SEASON & 2021 OUTLOOK
Fans may have thought that they had seen the end of Levi as a consistent player for seasons to come, with the impending return of Charlie Curnow. However, with the unfortunate news that Curnow's injury has had another setback, and the potential move for Mitch McGovern down back, it looks as though Levi will hold his spot in the senior side to at least begin the 2021 season.
His versatility is an upside, with his ability to deputise in the ruck as well as down back making him a true utility for this side.
Next season, Levi will turn 31, and with the eventual return of Curnow it could prove to be his final season donning the Navy Blue. But how many times has that been said of the big man over the years, only to prove his doubters and critics wrong time and again.
